This awesome effect is created by using WebGL and pure javascript. WebGL is a very new technology for web browser but these kinds of effects will be quite common in the near future.
The script is coded in pure javascript and only uses 1 image to create the effect.

There is some documentation included but if you want to use this script in your projects a thorough understanding of javascript and WebGL is needed.
